Kayak Fishing This Round!

Finally made it out in the kayak. Fished the point at Brockdale Park. Birds were working the shad from above; White Bass were working the shad from below.

Used a fly rod and a bow mounted rod holder to fish a tandem crappie jig and tube fly. Lots of fun with most bites on the tube fly!

No bell on the rod needed. Could see the rod without straining ones neck, able to react to strikes easily, and could grab the rod quickly with the rod facing aft. May need to add a bow mounted rod holder to the other kayak!

Had to get used to the locking mechanism of the rod holder but after bite three or four, had no problems. Also, liked using the fly rod – much easier to manage the line and reduce hanging up on gear.

Fun stuff… even left them biting!
